Chess in Basel

Sitting on the border triangle of Switzerland, France and Germany, Basel has an unusually international chess scene. Clubs in the city and the surrounding towns (Therwil, Allschwil, Riehen, Muttenz) welcome players of every strength, and tournaments in the region regularly draw players from all three countries.

Learning chess in Basel

Basel and its surroundings regularly host FIDE-rated tournaments: classical Swiss-system opens, rapid and blitz weekends, and team championships. These tournaments are open to all levels; a FIDE ID or national rating card is usually required.
